REMINDER: Scholarship Application Deadline – April 30th

April 20, 2017

As you know, the CARH Scholarship Foundation is currently accepting applications for the five scholarships offered in 2017. They must be received no later than April 30, 2017. The scholarships are the James L. Poehlman, Gordon L. Blackwell, Jack Godin, Jr., CRHD Founders and Scholarship Foundation Scholarships.

The five scholarships are awarded to deserving residents of CARH-member affordable rural housing properties. Each scholarship provides $1,500 per semester for educational expenses, with a maximum four years of funding. The Foundation will also present $250.00 to the complex manager where there is a scholarship recipient, as well as recognition in CARH publications and on CARH’s website, www.carh.org.

Qualified applicants must be a resident of a CARH-member property; a U.S. citizen or permanent legal resident; hold or be a candidate for a high school diploma or equivalent; demonstrate scholastic or work achievement; demonstrate financial need; and be accepted at or currently enrolled, as a full-time under-graduate student at an accredited 2- or 4-year college, university or an vocational educational school. (Please note, a property is considered to be a “CARH-member property” if it is under the management/ownership of a national CARH member and the annual Property Training & Education Fee has been paid for that property.)

There are two types of applications for scholarships:

  • Application for Traditional Students – This application is for those students/individuals, that are currently a candidate for high school graduation or within the past five years received a high school diploma (or equivalent); and
  • Application for Non-Traditional Students – This application is for students/individuals, with a high school diploma or equivalent, who have been out of school for five years or more.

One scholarship has been reserved for a qualified applicant who has been accepted at, or is enrolled in, an accredited vocational or trade school program. All applicants are eligible for the other four scholarships. Applications can also be downloaded from the “Scholarship Foundation” menu option of the CARH website, www.carh.org.

It is my hope that you get the word out to CARH member properties that the deadline is quickly approaching and ask your on-site property management personnel to encourage qualified residents to apply for these scholarships as soon as possible! Click here for a flyer that can be posted in property common areas or distributed to residents.

The scholarship recipients will be presented at a special Awards Breakfast on Wednesday, June 21st during the CARH Annual Meeting and Legislative Conference at the Ritz-Carlton Pentagon City, Arlington, Virginia.

Thank you for your time and assistance in promoting the CARH Scholarship Foundation’s 2017 Scholarship application process!

Sincerely,

Rodney Corley
CARH Scholarship Foundation President
