The Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Office of Housing distributed the following information for stakeholders regarding an upcoming training session hosted by HUD and the Department of Homeland Security’s US Citizenship and Immigration Services for HUD staff and HUD grantees only (Public Housing Agencies and HUD-assisted multifamily owners and property managers) regarding the Afghan arrivals who have entered the U.S. through Operation Allies Welcome (OAW):

• Invitation to Training on Afghan Arrival Categories, Documentation, and Verification Through SAVEU.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) are holding a training session for HUD staff and HUD grantees only (Public Housing Agencies and HUD-assisted Multifamily owners and property managers) regarding the Afghan arrivals who have entered the U.S. through Operation Allies Welcome (OAW).  OAW is an ongoing effort across the federal government, led by the Department of Homeland Security, to support vulnerable Afghans as they safely resettle in the United States.USCIS administers the SAVE program, an online service that allows benefit-granting agencies to verify a benefit applicant’s immigration or citizenship status. The training will provide information and resources regarding Afghan Arrival categories, federal benefits they may be eligible for, documentation that they may present when applying for benefits, and how to verify their immigration status or parole using SAVE.

  This training session supplements the monthly trainings offered by the USCIS SAVE program for current and prospective SAVE users. Please attend one of these monthly trainings and/or be familiar with the SAVE prior to attending these OAW-specific trainings.

  Please note that USCIS and HUD will not record the training or distribute a copy of the presentation. However, much of the training content is available in the USCIS SAVE OAW Fact Sheet.

  Additional information about the registration process:

  • After clicking on the registration link, you will be directed to the registration page.
  • You will be asked to sign up for updates or to access your subscriber preferences. Please enter your email address and select “Submit.”
  • Select “Subscriber Preferences.”
  • Select the “Questions” tab.
  • Provide your location, organization name and organization type (if applicable).
  • Complete the questions and select “Submit.”
  • You will receive a confirmation email with additional information including how to submit questions in advance.
