HUD Delays Release of Income Limits

Regulatory Alert

December 4, 2014

In 2011, the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), announced they would publish Income Limits each December.  However, the 2014 Consolidated Appropriations Act defines extremely low-income families as very low-income families whose income does not exceed the greater of the federal poverty guidelines as published by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) or 30 percent of area median family income.

Industry stakeholders had expressed concerns that the income limits may have to be adjusted twice since HUD planned to announce new income limits in December and HHS generally announces new poverty levels in February or March.

Therefore, HUD announced yesterday that the Fiscal Year (FY) 2015 Income Limits will be published following the publication of the 2015 poverty guidelines issued by HHS.  HUD anticipates that the FY 2015 Income Limits will be published in February 2015.
