CARH’s Executive Director Attends Roundtable for White House Council on Eliminating Regulatory Barriers to Affordable Housing

CARH’S BROADCAST E-MAIL – Regulatory Alert

As you will recall from CARH’s June 28th Broadcast Email, President Trump issued an Executive Order entitled, “Establishing a White House Council on Eliminating Regulatory Barriers to Affordable Housing.” Ben Carson, Secretary of the Department of Housing & Urban Development serves as Chair. On November 1st, Colleen Fisher, CARH’s Executive Director, attended the first roundtable event of that Council. Secretary Carson, in addition to other officials from the Administration, led the discussion.

Housing leaders from both the public and private sectors came together for a wide-reaching discussion on eliminating regulatory barriers, that are the primary reason for the continued rise in housing costs.

CARH will continue to work with the Council in its efforts to not only eliminate regulatory barriers, but also to develop new policies and procedures that will lead to not only preservation of the existing portfolio as well as construction of new housing throughout rural America.

In a related update, on October 31, Representative Virginia Fox (R-NC-5) introduced legislation to the House Financial Services Committee relating to the Council. H.R.4956 was introduced “to provide that the Executive order entitled “Establishing a White House Council on Eliminating Regulatory Barriers to Affordable Housing” shall have the force and effect of law, and for other purposes.”
